How Far in Advance Should I Book a Boat Rental in Kelowna?
Timing your booking right can be the difference between getting your preferred date and missing out entirely. Here's what you need to know about availability at Lake Day Boat Rentals.
The Short Answer
- •July and August weekends: Book 3–4 weeks in advance minimum
- •July 1 (Canada Day) and August long weekend: Book 6–8 weeks in advance
- •June and September: 1–2 weeks is usually sufficient
- •Weekdays in peak season: 1 week is often fine
- •Off-peak (April–May, October): A few days' notice is usually enough
Why Kelowna Books Up So Fast
Kelowna is one of Canada's most popular summer destinations. The combination of wine country, beaches, and outdoor activities draws visitors from across Western Canada and beyond. Okanagan Lake is the centrepiece of the experience, and boat rentals are in high demand.
We operate a small, curated fleet — two premium vessels — which means availability is genuinely limited. We don't overbook or rush guests through. When we're booked, we're booked.
Peak Dates to Watch
These dates book up fastest every year:
- •Canada Day (July 1) — one of the busiest days of the year on the lake
- •BC Day long weekend (first Monday in August) — three-day weekend, extremely popular
- •Any weekend in July — consistently the busiest period
- •Labour Day weekend (first Monday in September) — the last hurrah of summer
If your trip includes any of these dates, book as early as possible.
How to Check Availability
The easiest way is to use our online booking system. You can see real-time availability for both boats across all dates. The calendar shows which dates are available, partially booked, or fully booked.
If you don't see your preferred date available, contact us — occasionally cancellations open up, and we can add you to a waitlist.
Last-Minute Bookings
We do occasionally have last-minute availability, particularly:
- •Weekday slots throughout the season
- •Early morning or late afternoon slots that haven't filled
- •Dates in shoulder season (June, September, October)
If you're flexible on dates and times, last-minute bookings can work. But if you have a specific date in mind — especially a summer weekend — don't count on last-minute availability.
Tips for Securing Your Preferred Date
What Happens If You Need to Cancel?
We understand that plans change. Our cancellation policy:
- •48+ hours before your rental: Full refund
- •24–48 hours before: 50% refund
- •Less than 24 hours: No refund
Booking early doesn't mean you're locked in — you have flexibility to cancel or reschedule with reasonable notice.
Multi-Day Bookings
Planning an extended stay in Kelowna? We offer multi-day rentals with a 10% discount. If you're visiting for a week and want to spend multiple days on the water, booking consecutive days ensures you get the dates you want and saves you money.
The Bottom Line
The earlier you book, the more options you have. For summer weekends, treat it like booking a popular restaurant — don't wait until the last minute and then be disappointed.
Check availability and book your rental now at our booking page. It takes less than five minutes, and your spot on Okanagan Lake will be secured.Have questions about availability or want to check on specific dates? Contact our team — we're always happy to help.
